This is important, timely, and a really easy thing to do.
As you get your tax return information ready, take a minute or two to set aside copies of papers that will be important to your family. Documents like 1099s and 1098s will help you and your family locate assets. Maybe you have an old IRA, or a mutual fund account that you sometimes forget.
And while you’re at it, please check your beneficiary designations on your IRA, 401(k), and life insurance. Update as necessary.
After you get the taxes in, call me to set up an appointment to either draft an estate plan or review your current plan. It’s a good time to do it, while you’re thinking about finances, and the paperwork is all in one place and near the top!
